Scuba Diving Great Barrier Reef

Although a lot of people plan their Caribbean vacations on the condition of the beaches, there is a growing number of people who are planning their vacation based on the scuba diving. This is why the number of people vacationing to Aruba is increasing.

One of the reasons that people put this Caribbean island near the top of their list when it comes to diving is because of the wrecks. People into diving say that dive wrecks, which are where you dive to check out an old shipwreck, are the best types. Another reason why Aruba is near the top is because of the colorful reefs.

It’s here on the equator at the confluence of currents, where the cold waters traveling north from Antarctica mix with the warm tropical waters traveling south from Panama that a unique environment is formed. On the islands it’s characterized by seeing Galapagos Penguins living only a few feet away from tropical Pink Flamingos. Yet it’s when you are underwater when you get to know how truly special this area is.

The Galapagos are volcanic islands that benefit from equatorial upwelling making it an ideal marine environment. These waters are rich with nutrients. The porous lava rocks provide small fish with the protection they would otherwise receive from a coral reef, which are few and far between in these waters.

One item that is necessary at any time would be a scuba knife. This is an handy tool when you get struck by long leaves underwater, cut the leaves away and your free to go. Dive knives are offered in a variety of materials, sizes and shapes, and when purchasing one it is important to remember that dive knives are tools, not weapons. Below are a few tips that will help you make an informed decision on what kind of dive knife will best suit your needs as a diver.

Scuba Diving in Galapagos can be arranged in a couple of ways. First for advanced divers there are a handful of yachts, which offer 7-night live aboard cruises. The highlight of these cruises is the 3 days spent diving at Wolf and Darwin. This is a fantastic experience, which during peak season (June – November) includes diving with whale sharks, schools of hammerheads, Galapagos, silky and black tip sharks.

Galapagos isn’t just for advanced divers; these waters offer something for divers of all skill levels. Intermediate divers will be delighted by daily dive trips to sites like Gordon Rocks, Cousins Rocks, North Seymour and Floreana where hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, giant manta rays, golden rays, morays, fur seal and sea lions are all commonly seen.

Because you become certified in scuba diving and have instructors with you the entire time, it even makes for a fantastic family bonding experience. It will make the dive so much more enjoyable because you will be able to share those memories with your family for a lifetime. Instead of just saying about how nice it was laying on the beach, you can talk about how great it was diving underwater
