Why is it so Hard to Purchase Manchester United Tickets?

Until recently it was easier to buy Manchester United Tickets. However, times have changed and Manchester United tickets are in great demand.

The Premier League season is about to start and should be one of the most exciting seasons ever seen. The defending champions, Manchester United are once again the favorite to win the title for the fourth year in a row, however, teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal will pose a huge challenge.

Despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, interest in the Manchester United has never been higher. Manchester United drew more than 200,000 spectators to its games during their preseason Asian trip in July. The team is one of the world’s most popular, and its passionate supporters seem to grow in numbers every year.

The increase in popularity has a downside though:  it has become harder and harder to buy Manchester United tickets. Despite having one of the biggest stadiums in the United Kingdom (total capacity: 76,212), there are rarely unsold seats and a number of factors have led to tickets becoming scarce.

The team has a huge group of season ticket holders, so that for every game, there are very few tickets available. This is very evident when it comes to the big games against Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, the local derby with Manchester City, and some of the Champions League matches against the other top teams in Europe. One United members have access to remaining tickets through a lottery system they can enter for every game they want to see. Anyone can become a One United member by paying the annual fee, but given the limited number of tickets available, anyone getting tickets through the lottery should consider themselves lucky.

It is not likely that the supply of Manchester United tickets will increase in the near future. Given the team’s recent successes, successes (three Premier League titles in a row, Champions League Winner in 2006/2007 and Runner-up in 2007/2008), its popularity is unlikely to decrease, and there are no current plans to increase Old Trafford’s capacity.
